Lovely Antalya
Located in Turkeys Antalya Provice is a wonderful resort
city known as Antalya. This wonderful city is surrounded by
mountains and located on lovely coastal cliffs. Although the
city has only been in the tourist and resort business for
half a century, it is well-known and thriving. Although it
is not known for a fact when the city was first created, it
is thought that in around 150 BC a king of Pergamon known as
Attalos II founded it. He named it after himself and it
would eventually become known for being a mighty naval base
for the region. Due to excavations in the year of 2008, the
country let it be known that the beautiful city may have in
fact been founded earlier then originally believed, dating
back to the Roman Period in the world. A very important and
interesting fact about the city is that the disciple Paul
was known to have helped spread Christianity to this place
in the second city when he spoke to Antalya. This is spoken
about in the book of Acts in the Bible.
The population of this city is a bit over 1 million. This is massive change from the 17,000 counted in the year of 1927, making it a great place to be during the winter or summer months. No matter what time of year, Antalya is bustling with tourist activity. The Taurus Mountains create a beautiful backdrop to the city, along with plunging peaks and cliffs, bays, peninsulas, and flat areas. Waterfalls are also a commonly seen formation that brings out the beauty and wonder of Turkey. The Taurus Mountains actually provide an invaluable defence to the city because they block the chilly winter winds that might make this less popular a tourist location. People visiting the city will be interested to know that only about sixty days of the years aren’t sunny. The temperature of the sea is normally around 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the land temperature ranging from high 80’s to a bit above a 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The brisk and refreshing winds always provide a wonderful improvement to any hot days as the wind comes directly off of the seas, cooling the entire city. A great place to visit while in Antalya is Kaleici. This is a restored centre of great historical value complete with clubs, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Due to the beauty of its restoration it was actually rewarded the Golden Apple Tourism Prize. Cumhuriyet Square in the central part of the city gives visitors the opportunity to see open air performances from all over the world, giving the place an air of freedom and entertainment. The cobbled streets and old world style housing will provide memories to last a lifetime. This is definitely a wonderful place to take a holiday or early retirement. |
