Kemer: A Turkish Holiday Spot
Located on the Turkish coast of the sparkling
Mediterranean Sea, Kemer is simultaneously an
ancient city and a newly built tourist
attraction. This is possible in that the ancient
ruins and history are very clearly evident yet
the city has been built up tremendously in the
last decade or so to cater to the ever-growing
tourist trade. This is a good thing in that
tourists can now enjoy rich history and culture
sightseeing amid the ruins while still reaping
the benefits of modern amenities and
entertainment options.
Thought to be the ancient city of Idryos at one time, Kemer has quite a few ancient ruins and historical sites that preserve history and attract visitors. One of those ruins is a Byzantine church with many structures that is great evidence of the complex building that existed in the distant past. Another notable historical feature located near Kemer is the Seljuk Hunting Lodge. This artefact is believed to date all the way back in history to around 1219 to 1236. Amazing to have something lasting so long on this earth! The lodge’s well hidden location in the forest is what has likely contributed to its longevity and preservation. Kemer boasts beautiful beaches along the jewel-like Mediterranean Sea coast. Cove beaches and textured sands add to the magic of Kemer, offering endless sea side enjoyment. The fully equipped marina there provides opportunities for boat rides along the coast as well as fishing fun. During the winter season, this marina is important in the care and wintering of boats and watercraft belonging to residents and frequent visitors. Also at the marina is a beach-front boardwalk with cafes and shops to browse and easy access to stepping down onto the beach below. Sea side dining and shopping on the Mediterranean will certainly be a memorable part of your Turkish holiday. For those looking for modern and exciting tourist fun, Kemer is home to a magnificent park located on the bay often called the pearl of the Mediterranean. Moonlight Park offers many and varied attractions for your holiday entertainment. There are beaches where you will find water sports of all kinds, diving schools and all sorts of water play options. In addition to beach play, other fun and family friendly opportunities are available such as mini golf and seal shows as well. Bars and restaurant options abound in Moonlight Park for plentiful food choices and nightlife fun. As a thriving tourist destination, Kemer has something to offer for everyone looking for sun and fun on a memorable holiday! |
