Dalyan, Turkey has something to offer
anyone while on holiday. The small town
that lies on the South Western coast of
Turkey has an International airport and
is situated in a delta. The natural
beauty of Dalyan remains untouched. The
area of Dalyan is a environmentally
protected land which attracts the locals
and tourists to enjoy the beauty of the
land in its natural state.
The area of Dalyan offers a conservation that leads the way to the survival of the Caretta Caretta Turtles in their natural habitats. Some years ago this was a small fishing village but when the Caretta Caretta turtles came about, it led to conserve the land to allow the turtles the opportunity to live and thrive. Because of this, Dalyan has taken many steps to preserve its beauty and natural charm. The land of Dalyan is known for its relaxation which is the main reason many travellers come to this area each and every year. There is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from ranging from the Turkish cuisine to bars and shops. There is a limited number of discos in the area which will give you the nightlife while on holiday however, if you are here to get rest and to relax, then the limited number of discos will not disturb you retiring to bed early. The Dalyan canal circulates the water from the Mediterranean and Koycegiz Lake which will wind its way down to the sea by a number of smaller lakes and waterways. The mixture of the salt water and fresh water with the wetlands are well known for their wide array of fish and other sea life. You can travel to the Mediterranean in a short ride of 30 minutes by boat. The delta is divided by the Iztuzu sandbar that stretches for 6 Km. Known for its fine sand and turquoise collared sea. If you do not want to travel there by boat then you also have the option of arriving there by minibus. Either way to arrive to the beaches is worth the trip and the few euros that it costs to arrive there. You can either travel there by boat or you can travel the winding roads through the countryside to arrive to the sandy beaches. While you are here on holiday, take a trip to the ancient rock tombs which hold the tombs of the ancient kings of Caunos. The tombs are carved into the Lycian rocks and there are two types of tombs that can be found in Dalyan. The simple chambers that are cut into the rock while there are some more elaborate temple tombs that you can tour as well. Many of these tombs were built to have false walls as to provide the valuables a place to hide which was to fool the robbers who would rob the tombs. Eventually the tombs would be emptied of the treasures. |
