Belek, Turkey
The beautiful wooded city of Belek is
quickly becoming one of Turkey’s biggest
centres for tourism. Located in the Serik
district of the Antalya Province, Belek is
home to over thirty different four and five
star resorts boasting challenging, scenic
golf courses. With beautiful, clear,
turquoise Mediterranean coast lines, lush
pine forests and an incredible three hundred
days of sunshine every year, it is easy to
see why this little resort town is growing
more and more.
Gorgeous resorts and immaculate golf courses are not the only things that make Belek so appealing. The nearby ancient Roman ruins of Perge draw crowds of visitors every year. Perge is said to have been one of the richest, most beautiful cities in the ancient world. In addition to being home to the famous Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga, the historic city is also the alleged birthplace of beer. Perge was home to the notorious temple of Artemis as well, and regularly held events in its gigantic Aspendos amphitheatre which holds over 15,000 people. The acoustics in the ancient theatre are so impressive that it is still used to host the occasional concert. From the town of Belek, several different jeep safaris exploring the nearby mountains can be arranged. The large, ancient mountains offer impressive views with elevations reaching over two thousand meters. These steep slopes create the perfect conditions for fast flowing rapids, which are ideal for white water rafting. The majestic Manavgat waterfalls, located to the east, complete the scene with their rich, natural beauty. The rugged coast line coupled with the clear, warm waters of the Mediterranean offers unparalleled scuba diving with an underwater visibility of over twenty meters. Boating on tour yachts is also an ideal way of enjoying the beautiful, clear waters. And if the ocean isn’t enough, the nearby thermal baths at Pamukkale offer a relaxing, therapeutic experience with scenic views of the surrounding area. Even with all the amazing area attractions, tourists may find it difficult to pull themselves away from the luxurious, relaxing four and five star resorts. The resorts offer beautiful beaches laced with lush palm trees and numerous scenic golf courses that are hedged with thick pine forests. The town itself also has a quaint, compact shopping centre that meets any holidayers’ needs. It’s easy to see why this beautiful little resort town continues to grow year after year. There’s no shortage of sights to see, activities to engage in or sunshine to bathe in. |
