Gundogan is a sleepy little town situated on the Aegean Sea. The name means The Sunrise, and the area is covered in beautiful flowers year round. In the spring the smell of citrus blooming fills the air. The town is located on the beach and close to the mountains, giving travellers the best of both worlds.

The beaches in Gundogan are beautiful and a prime place to surf or dive. Quaint little shops and restaurants litter the beach area, allowing visitors to truly experience the true Turkey. A fresh foods bazaar is set up three times a week where you can go and taste the fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the area. The area is filled with tangerine, pomegranate and olive trees. This is also a prime area to purchase natural sponges. Sponge diving is a long tradition of the residents of the town.

Unspoiled by the hustle and bustle associated with major tourist attraction areas, Gundogan is a prime place to have a peaceful holiday. Accommodations range from the splendid to the ordinary, allowing visitors to choose how they wish to stay.

Gundogan has a rich and colourful history, tracing back to prehistoric times. The ancient Lelegian city of Madnasa is very near Gundogan and day trips can be taken to the area. Gundogan itself, known as Farilya in ancient times, is said to be one of the oldest settlements in the area. Bronze Age pottery and relics have been found in the areas caves. There are wonderful tours of the caves available for a very small price.

Tours to nearby Rabbit Island will provide you with a chance to explore a Byzantine Monastery from the early 9th century. Many other historical spots can be visited in and around Gundogan. Evidence of the many empires that have lived and ruled in this land are evidenced in the historical places of interest.

Yacht tours and other boating trips are available to take for the day out on the Aegean. Sunbathe, fish or visit the little islands speckled throughout the waters. Most day trips are all inclusive so there is no worry about food or drinks for the day.
